WHAT to Buy! Used Cars or New Cars! Why Used Car Dealers are better option than private re-sellers? Are All Used Cars for Sale Safe to Buy?Tips by Satnam-Singh-Sidhu-BC
Time to winterize your vehicle:
1 Check wiper blades and Washer fluid
2 Make tires are in good shape
3 Make sure 4x4 switch is working (if available)
4 Make sure Radiator and Reservoir have proper coolant in it.
5 Make sure heater core and blower are working (If thermostat was removed to avoid overheating, then it is the time to fix it or otherwise freeze....)
6 Make sure a/c is working and defrost is working for front windshield
If you suspect that there is water in washer fluid and coolant reservoir then don't take risk...FLUSH IT NOW...OTHERWISE THIS WATER CAN PUT YOU AND YOUR VEHICLE IN TROUBLE DURING SNOW OR BELOW ZERO DEGREE TEMPERATURE.
Why?
Water is free and coolant is expensive?
You may have seen white smoke coming under the hood of some stranded car on the road side either during winter or hot summer.
We will talk about summer before summer!
Lets talk about winter first:
When temp falls below zero degree centigrade, water turns into ice. In other words it gets frozen. The water in the radiator that was used to cool the engine and heat your car cabin, is now frozen and can not move.
As a result you don't get warm air in your car cabin and engine do not get cooling from water.
As a result water builds pressure on certain spots (especially on weak parts like rubber hoses, heater core, radiator etc) and burst out! Worse case is when water burst out through head gasket. You may not see that white smoke in later case right away but it would cost you lot more to fix the engine.
So No Water in Radiator in Winter time neither in washer fluid. Batman-Satnam Singh Sidhu BC
